Week 1 Visual Assignment: Draw It

De La Pena, Bryan. Drawn Fy Over. 2026 May 23.

The sky was blue and quiet, all that could be heard was the sounds of the Marines shuffling into their positions. Sgt Meza was looking over the maintenance laptop, he grew frustrated as he read over the work order. On the other side of the gazebo was LCpl Solis and Cpl Rivers talking loudly. Sgt Meza yelled out for LCpl Solis to come over. LCpl Solis looked at Cpl Rivers worried and let out a sigh as he rushed over.

Solis stood at parade rest as he awaited instruction from Sgt Meza. Sgt Meza looked disappointed at Solis and ripped into him. “Solis, what the hell did I tell you about filling the corrective action?” Solis replied “Ummm.. Sgt I thought since we didn’t do op check it I could” Sgt Meza interrupted him “You dumb nugit! I’ve told you many times us turning on the bird is an op check. We may not do a deep dive of an op check but with a discrepancy like this, a full op check isn’t needed.”

Cpl Rivers peered over to see the scolding, he turned around to hide his laughter. The Temecula sun was scorching the gravel but luckily the small private runaway had shade for them. Rivers took a drag of his vape as LCpl Solis came over. Solis looked defeated and tired. “Man it’s Sunday already, there goes the rest of my weekend” said Solis. “You know big Sgt ain’t giving you the day off tomorrow, sucks to suck” snickered Rivers.

From the distance the sound of chopping air grew louder and louder. Solis connected his JBL speaker and put on Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival. River looked at Solis shaking his head and said “You’re digging yourself digger with this one.” Solis took a drag oof the vape and replied “Embrace the suck and have fun.” That’s when the Cobras did a fly over and flew back to base. Sgt Meza instructed them to load up the van and let the rest of the crew know they were good to depart. As Fortunate Son was fade Sgt Meza looked at LCpl Solis and said “You idiot that’s a protest song.” Solis nodded and replied “Aye Sgt” as he loaded the van.

Please listen to the CCR song as you read above. It captures the story main point. YouTube video below explains the jobs of the Marines written above.
