Week 3: Listen and Write

For today’s assignment I decided to review Spooked’s Ah-Ha’s episode. I reviewed this episode a few times, each time taking new details of the story. Glynn speaks about his concert experience seeing Ah-Ha live. He describes the spiritual experience of seeing a band that his brother loved. From his reminiscing their music brought that took over him and flooded his emotions. He truly captivated me with his vivid storytelling.

Glynn has a way to create a vivid story. My first listen was purely audio based, he caught my attention by his techniques. He starts off by incorporating a fun song in the beginning, then pacing his story to a more dramatic feel with his slower pace in monologue. His layering with ambient sounds creates a feeling of being inside the story. The silence towards the end of his story even serves a purpose, he makes you feel as if the world has stopped and at that very moment you are feeling his emotions.

Not only does he use audio to his advantage but he includes visual pieces that add to his story. I was truly captivated by his story, I felt his pain of missing his brother. It made me realize how much audio is important to art and how it can create depth to any story.
