Sounds are heard daily and without thought your brain stores them into a library of sounds. This allows you to easily recognize patterns, places, people or things. The brain can mix signals which causes issues in recognition patterns, using this same concept the sounds of a helicopter were altered to something new.
A helicopter has 2 main components that allow it to soar the skies, a main rotor and a tail rotor. The main rotor lifts the helicopter while the tail rotor directs and stabilizes its position. Every helicopter differs in sound due to the number of blades, size and weight. But overall the sound is recognizable.
The sound space a helicopter creates is like chopping air, you can hear it with every rotation of the blade. The helicopter sounds became iconic in Vietnam based movies, as helicopters were heavily used to conduct operations. In theory helicopters should not operate, since the principle of flight is disregarded in sense of how a helicopter operates. I took this unconventional sound and created low growling sound. It felt like Dr. Frankenstein brining his creation to life. A menacing vibrating sound that was hard to distinguish without any context. A true example of how recognition is taken for granted.
