Have you listened to music without the distractions of your mind? Take a minute from your day, close your eyes and put on your current playlist. The memories and emotions that are associated with the songs slow resurface into your mind. The power of music can be overwhelming with emotions for many, but it can also be used as a tool to express how one feels. As much as I would love to be a musician I unfortunately lack those skills, but one does not have to restrict themselves due to musical talents. In the 80’s through the late 2000’s creating mixtapes solved that issue.
Creating a mixtape is an art form within itself, like Rob Gordon from the 2000’s film High Fidelity, “First of all you are using someone’s else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.” Expression though music can accomplish many aspects of emotions, I find it easier to let the music dictate how I feel. So when I cultivate my mixtapes I try to dictate the listener how to feel.
Listen to my handpicked mixtape for your listening pleasure. I want you to close your eyes and listen to the mixtape and ponder on my intentions for each song selected.
