A unlikely trio took the world by storm this past summer. From a small town in Virginia, 3 friends banded together to re-create the Nu-Metal sounds. Covered in 90’s fashion from head to toe the trio named Los Frijoles were about to perform in Nationals Park. The band consisted of drummer Gerardo, bassist/ back up vocals Angel and guitarist/ vocals Salvador, were all childhood friends since Jr. High.
Salvador was the mastermind behind the trio, he really embraced the 90’s due to his late father. The trio met in science class where Salvador was paired up with Gerardo as a lab partner. They connected over similar musical taste, such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Linkin Park. Salvador also enjoyed low rider classics and classic rock. Gerardo liked music such as banda and cumbias since his uncle was in a cumbia cover band. Gerardo was neighbors with Angel and naturally brought him around. Angel had a slightly different musical taste, he enjoyed the likes of west coast rapper Lil Rob, Mr. Capone-E, but also Suicidal Tendencies and Metallica. The different fusion of music
Los Frijoles (The Beans) were an ode to Korn, they proudly incorporated their Hispanic roots into their music. They use instruments like the accordion, hand drums, maracas and el grito to blend into their Nu-Metal music. Their hit song Barrio Daze topped SoundCloud charts and landed them a first pitch at Nats park. The theme night was Nu-Metal and everyone in the crowd was hyped to see them. Los Frijoles even sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” with fans in section 200. The Nats won against the Mets and made their night even more memorable.
